For our anniversary last year, we took a short trip to Port Aransas, Texas for the first time. We stayed at the beautiful Sandcastle Condos. The place is magical. The beach. The people. The small community. I fell in love. I have literally never felt like that about any other place I have been. We only stayed a few days, but I knew even after such a short time there, Port Aransas had stolen my heart.
There were a couple of things we took from that trip to make the next trip even better. We needed to be able to stay longer and I needed to stay off the jetty (at least the rock part of it).. I’ll spare you from the horrible pictures of my knee after a slip on the rocks, but let’s just say that after a bloody walk back to the car and months to heal, I’m good with not walking too far down a jetty anywhere in the near future. LOL.
It melted my heart to see my kids play in the sand and have the ocean waves at their feet. I have never felt this family be so carefree before that day.
Pure joy. That’s what this trip was to us. Simply, pure joy.
After a long day at the beach, we drove out to have a nice dinner for our anniversary. It was a late night for sure, but worth it. I think for now on though, we will stick with local restaurants, instead of driving back towards Corpus.
Before leaving the next day, we made our way over to the souvenir shops and took some photos. Little did I know that just a few months later, the seahorses would be destroyed and the Captain would no longer be there. I’m so thankful that we were able to have this trip, create these memories and take these photos.
The minute we left to go home, I was ready to go back. I was literally talking about buying a beach house, which had never happened before. Port Aransas opened my eyes and my heart in ways I never knew was possible.
