As she drove away,
an undeniable ache
filled her chest.
She stopped the car.
Something was missing.
She looked back
at the ocean
in her side mirror.
There it was.
A piece of herself
at the water’s edge.
With a deep sigh,
she turned her eyes
back to the road.
She kept driving.
She’d have to do without
that piece of herself,
until her toes
found their way
back into the sand.
